Heather recently joined Ashwoods as Financial Controller and oversees the day to day finances of the business, supporting our Financial Director, Jeremy Ellison, with the overall strategy for the business.

Joining this Spring after six years with Heathcoat Fabrics in Tiverton, Heather’s experience on the financial side of manufacturing businesses highlights another great acquisition by Ashwoods.

Heather studied Drug Research at the University of Bath and subsequently worked in pathology and blood transfusion with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

After this, she took a “break” (if you can call it that…) to raise her two children with husband Neil on a working farm near Tiverton. While this was idyllic in some respects, living on a working farm was exactly that – hard work!

Following this Heather went to College to study the AAT accountancy course. Working for a local fireworks company and then TDG in Willand, Heather achieved her CIMA qualification.

When asked, ‘Why Ashwoods?’ Heather replied:

“It’s simply a very exciting time to join the business with the move to a brand-new manufacturing facility, and this suited my skillset after my time with Heathcoat.”

In her spare time, Heather is a prolific walker – and not just weekend ramblings! Her next challenge this month is walking from Italy to France over the Alps in 48 hours – this is the equivalent of two marathons in two days!

No stranger to such physical challenges, she has previously completed exactly the same in Morocco and Iceland. Later this summer Heather also plans to walk the coastal path of Cornwall, starting in Newquay and working her way down to St. Ives with a group of friends.

When not walking across mountains, Heather understandably uses her free time to relax – usually in the sunshine. Her recent holiday to Dominica was just what the doctor ordered!

We all wish Heather the very best of luck in her new role and for her various expeditions over the coming weeks and months!
