Now housed in a custom-built and state-of-the-art, high volume manufacturing facility, it is hard to believe that Ashwoods has only existed little more than a decade.

Founded in 2006 by Managing Director, Lloyd Ash, to hybridise vans, the business has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow exponentially at the cutting edge of the industry. Soon after its inception, Ashwoods Group was established and the business moved into Hybrid House in Exeter.

From here Ashwoods’ innovative solutions continued to develop, and in 2011 the first Axial flux motor was produced. Ashwoods Electric Motors as we know it today was founded in 2012 and became ISO 9001 certified in 2013. Just a year later, the first IPM motor was developed which then commercialised in 2016 – and remains industry disruptive to this day.

2017 was another significant year in Ashwoods history, as new premises were secured in the heart of the Devonian countryside near to Exeter and its infrastructure. Innovation Valley, as it was to be later named, signalled the business’ intent to change the face of the industry, alongside sister company, Lightfoot.

In spring 2018 the move to Innovation Valley was completed, and enabled a seismic step-change for Ashwoods. Enabling high volume manufacturing, Innovation Valley enjoys bespoke machinery and production floor space in what is truly a world class facility. In terms of personnel we have grown from just a handful of people five years ago to a team totalling over sixty in 2018, from our production team to engineering to sales and support staff.

Ashwoods Electric Motors shows no signs of letting up, as the staff count continues to rise and keeps pace with the demand for our range of motors and engineering solutions. Here’s to the future!
