We decided it was time for a Summer Party to celebrate all our successes from the year so far. This was a joint venture with Lightfoot, our sister company, and took place on Friday July 28th 2017.

We left Hybrid House at 2pm and made our way down to Topsham and Trout’s Boatyard, where we caught the Cruise Boat “The Sea Dream”.

We had plenty of refreshments as we made our way down the Exe Estuary to The Turf Locks.

Once at The Turf, we had a BBQ and a few drinks, making sure everyone was truly enjoying themselves after busy 6 months of hard work, determination and success. The Sea Dream picked us up at 7pm and brought us back to Topsham.

An interview with Phil from The Ashwoods Team…

1) What is your job title?

Mechanical Design Engineer

2) What does it involve?

I work on engineering projects, which means I work with customers to integrate either our standard motors or our bespoke motors into their system.

3) What’s your favourite thing about it?

I am able to see the projects through from start to finish. I get to work on the conceptual design and carry it through to prototypes and then get it ready for production.

4) How long have you worked for Ashwoods?

6 months

5) Are you married?

I am engaged – I will be getting married next June.

6) What do you do when not at work?

I regularly practise Taekwondo, which I also teach a couple of times a week.

7) What car do you drive?

A Peugeot 206.

8) If you could go anywhere where would it be?

Somewhere in the far east, like China or Korea. I find the history and culture interesting and I have never been.

9) Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I am half Swedish.

10) Why Ashwoods?

It is an interesting industry and both the role and the company appealed to me quite a lot.

11) Why Exeter?

I went to University here, my fiancée still goes to University here and we both very much like the Southwest in general.

12) What are you working on right now?

Integrating our motors into a drive train that will be used on mobile work platforms – such as a boom lifts or scissor lifts.

Chris looks after everything within the business related to Operations and Manufacturing and joins us with over 20 years’ experience gained within world class electronics manufacturing companies. He has held numerous roles within the manufacturing and operations arena with his final position being the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations for Pace PLC, who were a world leader in the design and manufacture of digital set top box products.

In this role, as part of the senior leadership team, he was responsible for quality, supply chain, manufacturing and service functions. His remit spanned manufacturing locations across the globe including Brazil, China, Malaysia and Eastern Europe, where he successfully delivered an annual volume in excess of 5.5 million products with an on time delivery of 99% and recognising an annual revenue of $680 million.

Chris is now working to help Ashwoods become a world leader in the manufacture of our class leading IPM motors by establishing the necessary structures and processes needed to ensure we can deliver quality product, on time to all our customers.

When not at work, Chris enjoys family days with his partner and children, who are ages seven and four. They like spending time by the sea – Teignmouth especially. Chris chose to live in Exeter  because of the work/life balance that living here offers, being that we’re surrounded by such picturesque countryside.

Chris drives a BMW X5 and enjoys getting it out on Dartmoor – he says it’s beautiful to drive across but you really have to watch out for ponies. He’s not sure that he’ll have his BMW for too long though, because it’s a little big for all the country roads.
