As part of the move to Innovation Valley, Ashwoods Electric Motors have invested in a brand-new and custom-built stator production machine. With specific and continual input from Ashwoods Electric Motors’ Advanced Automation Team during the entire build of the machine, what was a company vision a few years ago is now a reality with the completion and shipment of the Ashwoods Electric Motors stator production machine.
In what is a seismic period of time for Ashwoods, with the move to Innovation Valley, the installation of this machine will allow the large-scale production of our pioneering electric motors to reach new heights. Automated production ensures that product quality is optimised at all times due to repeatability and accuracy.
The new stator production machine makes everything to do with the production of our ground-breaking electric motors more efficient and consistent. It can wind up to six teeth simultaneously at 300rpm – much improved on the current process. The positioning of the wire can be controlled to 0.01mm and the automated ABB robot is accurate to 0.02mm. For perspective, the average human hair is 0.06mm wide.
Ashwoods’ attention to detail is evident as every tool used in connection with the machine undergoes a digital and physical check. When the operator scans the motor off at the end of the line, the serial number is transferred to the Ashwoods Electric Motors database, enabling an incredibly high level of traceability. In fact, every mm of copper and iron used is logged for the entire life of the motor – allowing for a great deal of confidence for our customers.
What all this means for the business is that our volumes of manufacturing can rise to hundreds of thousands. In fact, there is an in-built option within the machine to ramp up production even further if required – future proofing Innovation Valley.
